Speakers Bios:
Jonathan Rudin is the program director at Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto. He received his LL.B. and LL.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. Jonathan has written and spoken extensively on issues relating to Aboriginal people and the justice system. Along with Professor Michael Jackson he was the author and researcher of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal People's Report on Criminal Law - Bridging the Cultural Divide. He also wrote on the Legal Aid Needs of Aboriginal People in Urban Areas and on Southern Reserves for the Ontario Legal Aid Review and on Alternative Approaches to Criminal Law for the Ontario Commission on Systemic Racism in the Criminal Justice System.
Tony Martens is an author, clinical therapist and mental health consultant with 30 years experience working in the field of sexual abuse and family violence. He has held the position of both national and provincial mental health consultant in the area of family violence with Health Canada. He developed the first known holistically based, long term treatment program treating all members of the family (including victim & offenders) where sexual abuse/family violence have occurred. He has provided consultation services to close to 400 aboriginal communities across Canada, and has conducted over 1000 workshops, trainings and seminars related to a range of topics including sexual abuse, family violence, alternative sentencing and treatment for regressed sex offenders. His treatment programs have provided counseling to over 1100 families.
