74-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Bank Robbery, Police Reject Claims of Desperation

Fairfield Township Woman Faces Charges After Credit Union Heist

A Fairfield Township, Ohio police department has arrested a 74-year-old woman, Ann Mayers, for robbing the AurGroup Credit Union on April 19th. Police emphasize that Mayers’ actions were deliberate and reject claims from her family that she was acting out of desperation.

Displaying Firearm, Mayers Demands Money

According to police reports, Mayers entered the credit union and threatened tellers with a firearm, demanding money. She was later apprehended without incident and confessed to the robbery.

No Prior Criminal Record, But Premeditated Crime

While Mayers has no history of criminal activity, Sergeant Brandon McCroskey of the Fairfield Township Police Department highlights the planned nature of the robbery. “Evidence suggests this was not a spur-of-the-moment decision,” McCroskey stated.

Family Reports Scam, But Actions Point to Planning

Family members of Mayers claim she was the victim of a scam and felt pressured to repay debts. However, police counter this narrative with details of Mayers’ actions before and after the robbery.

“Not only did she discuss robbing the bank with family beforehand,” McCroskey explained, “but she also removed her license plate and attempted to remove a bumper sticker from her car in an effort to disguise the vehicle. Furthermore, she discarded clothing from the crime scene after the robbery.”

Charges Filed, Sentencing to Follow

Mayers has been charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm and tampering with evidence. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled to determine the appropriate punishment for her crimes.
