85-Year-Old Woman Fights Back, Shoots Intruder in Act of Self-Defense

Christine Jenneiahn’s bravery hailed as “heroic” by authorities

An 85-year-old Idaho woman, Christine Jenneiahn, displayed remarkable courage and resourcefulness when a masked intruder broke into her home. Despite being assaulted and handcuffed, Ms. Jenneiahn managed to fight back in a desperate act of self-preservation.

The Attack and Threats

The incident occurred in Bingham County, Idaho. Jenneiahn was at home with her disabled son when a man later identified as Derek Condon, entered the house. According to a case review by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Condon, wearing a ski mask and military jacket, attacked Jenneiahn, possibly hitting her on the head. He then handcuffed her to a chair and demanded valuables.

Jenneiahn told authorities she informed Condon she didn’t have much, but this did not deter him. He threatened to kill her and reportedly became enraged upon discovering her disabled son was also present.

Turning the Tables

Despite being restrained, Jenneiahn refused to give up. While Condon searched the house for valuables, she managed to drag herself, still handcuffed, to her bedroom. There, she retrieved a hidden .357 Magnum pistol from under her pillow. Returning to the living room, she concealed the weapon between the armrest and cushion of the chair.

A Desperate Shootout

When Condon returned, he renewed his threats. Jenneiahn, pushed to the limit, made a courageous decision. She drew her concealed weapon and fired at Condon, striking him twice. Condon retaliated, shooting Jenneiahn multiple times before retreating to the kitchen, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Justifiable Homicide

Bingham County Prosecutor Ryan Jolley commended Jenneiahn’s bravery, calling her actions “one of the most heroic acts of self-preservation I have ever heard of.” An investigation confirmed Jenneiahn acted in self-defense, and the case was ruled a justifiable homicide.

Jenneiahn, though wounded, survived the attack. This harrowing incident serves as a testament to her remarkable spirit and will to survive.
