Doomsday Beliefs and Cold-Blooded Killings
An Idaho jury found Chad Daybell guilty on Thursday in a complex and disturbing triple murder case. The verdicts came after six hours of deliberation, capping off a trial that began in 2019 and involved four states.
Daybell, 55, remained emotionless as the verdicts were announced. He now faces the possibility of the death penalty in the killings of his wife, Tammy Daybell, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, and 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow.
Justice Served, But Lives Lost
“Everything was addressed, every item was ‘guilty,’ and for that, I’m happy,” said JJ’s grandfather, Larry Woodcock, speaking to The Associated Press. “I’m still sad for the loss – there were four lives lost in this for no purpose, no reason – but my wife and I are just so satisfied with the verdict.”
A Tangled Web of Love, Loss, and Alleged Conspiracy
The case involved a web of relationships and tragic deaths. Lori Vallow Daybell, the mother of Tylee and JJ, was sentenced to life in prison last year on similar charges. She married Chad Daybell just two weeks after Tammy Daybell’s death. Lori Vallow Daybell is currently awaiting trial in Arizona for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, JJ’s father.
Gag Order Leaves Further Details Unclear
A gag order has been placed on the case, preventing attorneys from speaking to the media until the trial concludes. This order limits further details on the evidence presented during the penalty phase, which resumes today.
