A house party in Chicago’s southwest Chicago Lawn neighborhood turned deadly on Monday afternoon when gunfire erupted, killing three men and wounding five others, authorities said. The tragic incident has left the community in shock as police work to track down the suspects.
The Shooting: Victims and Injuries
The shooting occurred around 2:10 p.m. during a “social gathering” at a home in the 6200 block of South Artesian Avenue, according to Chicago Police Chief of Patrol Jon Hein.
The victims included four men and four women aged between 20 and 35. Among them, a 26-year-old man and two other men succumbed to their injuries, while a 27-year-old woman shot in the head remains in critical condition at a local hospital. A 24-year-old woman who suffered six gunshot wounds is in serious condition, while three others, including two men aged 31 and 25 and a 21-year-old woman, are reported to be in good condition.
A History of Disturbances at the Residence
Police noted that the home has been the site of previous calls and incidents. El Towers, a neighbor who lives on the block, said the house is often used to host parties. Towers described hearing at least 10 gunshots, followed by the sound of screaming as partygoers fled the scene in panic.
No Suspects Identified Yet
Authorities have yet to identify or apprehend any suspects. Chief Hein stated that police are actively investigating the crime but have not established a motive for the attack.
“We’re going to solve this crime and find the individuals that are responsible for this heinous, terrible incident,” Hein assured reporters at the scene.
