Feds Charge 10 Alleged Minneapolis Gang Members in Latest Crime Crackdown

Ongoing Initiative Targets Violent Crime

Ten suspected gang members in Minneapolis face federal charges for drug trafficking, possession of firearms, and other offenses, according to law enforcement officials. This latest bust marks a significant step in a two-year federal effort to combat violent crime in Minnesota.

U.S. Attorney Vows Continued Action

U.S. Attorney Andy Luger emphasized the federal government’s commitment to public safety. “Our focus is holding accountable those who threaten our communities,” Luger stated. He reassured citizens that authorities are working to ensure a safe summer for residents and their families.

Focus on Gang Activity

The federal initiative has primarily targeted gang-related violence in north and south Minneapolis. Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, federal prosecutors had charged over 70 alleged gang members, according to Luger.

Fourth Gang Targeted

Following operations against three Minneapolis gangs in 2023, this recent action targets a fourth group. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara explained that authorities became aware of this gang’s potential resurgence in a south Minneapolis neighborhood. Investigations began last fall.

Connection Between Drugs, Guns, and Violence

“The violence inflicted on our residents stems directly from their actions,” stated O’Hara, referring to the accused gang members. He cited the distribution of dangerous drugs like fentanyl, illegal gun possession, and general intimidation tactics used to terrorize the community.

Evidence Recovered

Law enforcement executed search warrants, seizing cash, various illegal drugs (crack cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl), and thirteen firearms.
