Lumberton, North Carolina – A harrowing video has come to light, capturing the tragic death of a good Samaritan who intervened in an attempted carjacking in Lumberton, North Carolina.

The footage, obtained by TMZ and now circulating widely online, shows Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38, confronting the alleged carjacker, 28-year-old Ricky Alex Driggers. The incident occurred on March 18th on West Fifth Street.

The video depicts Lecompte approaching Driggers, who is believed to have been attempting to steal a vehicle belonging to a road crew. Lecompte’s courageous act was aimed at preventing the theft.

Shots Fired, Danger Escalates

In a clear attempt to deter Driggers, Lecompte yells, “Don’t get in the goddamn truck, fool!” The situation intensifies as Lecompte discharges his firearm towards Driggers.

Vehicle Used as Weapon, Bystander Struck Down

The video shows the white truck, with Driggers behind the wheel, reversing rapidly. Lecompte shouts a warning to bystanders, “Get out the way, he is going to run into us!” tragically foreshadowing the events to unfold.

Driggers throws the truck into drive, accelerating directly at Lecompte. The horrifying scene shows Lecompte being struck by the vehicle with immense force. Bystanders react with screams of horror as the impact unfolds.

Police Pursuit and Apprehension

Following the carjacking and deadly hit-and-run, authorities initiated a pursuit of the suspect. The chase ended when Driggers crashed the stolen vehicle on Selma Road near NC 41.

Charges Filed Against Suspect

Driggers was apprehended and faces a multitude of charges. These include first-degree murder for the death of Lecompte, attempted common law robbery for the initial carjacking attempt, larceny of a motor vehicle for stealing the truck, and felony fleeing to elude for his actions during the police pursuit. He is currently being held without bail at the Robeson County Jail.
