Sentence Imposed by Judge
Cloanger Robinson, 22, of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday after being convicted by a jury in May on three counts of first-degree murder. The sentencing, reported by The (Champaign) News-Gazette, reflects the severity of Robinson’s role in the triple homicide.
Details of the Crime
The murders occurred in January 2020 at the Danville home of Cordell J. Reed Sr., 67, where Nathaniel N. Gentry, 65, and Anthony D. Jones, 60, were also present. Robinson, then 18 years old, entered the home along with Terrion T. Tinsley, then 16, and an unnamed 17-year-old.
Circumstances Surrounding the Crime
According to trial evidence, the victims were playing cards when Robinson and his companions allegedly sought cannabis believed to be in the house. The victims were later found deceased from stab wounds and blunt force trauma.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
A thorough police investigation revealed that the suspects wore latex gloves under their knit gloves during the crime. Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy highlighted these details during Tuesday’s sentencing, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the crime.
Co-Defendants’ Sentences
Earlier this year, Terrion T. Tinsley was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted on two counts of first-degree murder. The unnamed 17-year-old pleaded guilty to robbery and agreed to cooperate with the prosecution as a witness.
