Lengthy Sentence for Brutal Crime
An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 145 years in prison for the fatal shootings of three adults and a 7-year-old girl after an argument with his ex-girlfriend over her federal COVID-19 relief money. Malik Halfacre, 28, received the sentence on Friday, as announced by the Marion County prosecutor’s office.
Guilty Plea to Multiple Charges
In June, Halfacre pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder related to the March 2021 incident. The shootings took place inside an Indianapolis home, resulting in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend’s 7-year-old daughter, her mother, brother, and a male cousin. Halfacre’s ex-girlfriend was also shot and wounded but survived.
Argument Over Stimulus Money
Prosecutors revealed that the argument between Halfacre and his ex-girlfriend was triggered by the stimulus money she had received. Following the altercation, Halfacre took the money, her purse, and car, leaving the home with their 6-month-old daughter, who was unharmed during the incident.
Arrest and Child’s Safety
Halfacre was arrested in the attic of a friend’s home after fleeing the scene. The child was found safe at a relative’s home. Court documents detailed the sequence of events, including Halfacre’s violent actions and eventual capture.
