Man Accused in Louisiana Killings and Kidnappings Waives Extradition

Suspect to Face Trial After Abduction Spanned State Lines

Daniel Callihan, 36, waived extradition Friday in federal court, paving the way for his return to Louisiana to face charges in a horrific crime. Callihan is accused in the killing of a Louisiana woman, the abduction of her two daughters, and the subsequent death of one of them.

Extradition Waived, Trial in Louisiana Awaits

During his court appearance, Callihan bypassed preliminary and detention hearings. He will remain in federal custody until transferred to Louisiana for trial. The exact date of transfer is unknown.

Facing Charges in Both States

While waiving federal hearings in Mississippi, Callihan will still face state charges there related to the alleged crimes. Additionally, he and another suspect, Victoria Cox, are expected to be hit with various charges in both states, including murder, sexual battery, and kidnapping.

Tragic Case with One Survivor

The charges stem from the death of Callie Brunett, 35, from Loranger, Louisiana, last week. Authorities allege Callihan and Cox were involved in the abduction of Brunett’s two daughters. The abduction crossed state lines from Louisiana to Mississippi, where tragically, the 4-year-old daughter perished. Thankfully, Brunett’s 6-year-old daughter survived and is back with family in Louisiana.
