Man Convicted of Murder in Death of Washington State Police Officer Shot by Deputy

Clark County Jury Finds Julio Segura Culpable in 2022 Incident

A Washington state man has been found guilty of murder in connection with the death of a police officer who was mistakenly shot by a sheriff’s deputy in 2022.

Segura Convicted on Multiple Charges

A Clark County jury convicted Julio Segura of Yakima on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and eluding police. These charges stem from the death of Vancouver police officer Donald Sahota, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting. Segura was acquitted of other charges, including attempted murder.

Off-Duty Officer Fatally Shot During Confrontation

Sahota, a 52-year-old Vancouver police officer, was off duty and at his home in Battle Ground when the incident occurred on January 29, 2022. Court documents reveal that Sahota confronted Segura, who was outside his residence, and was subsequently stabbed three times during a struggle. Segura then fled into the house as Clark County deputies arrived at the scene.

Mistaken Shooting by Deputy

According to court documents, Deputy Jonathan Feller upon arrival, saw Sahota pick up a gun and run toward the house. Feller opened fire within seconds of arriving and tragically struck Sahota. Coroners confirmed Sahota died from gunshot wounds to the torso.
