Man Sentenced to 66 Years for Stabbing Two Indianapolis Police Officers

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

A man who pleaded guilty to stabbing two Indianapolis police officers has been sentenced to 66 years in prison. Deonta Williams, 22, was sentenced on Thursday to 60 years for two counts of attempted murder and an additional six years for a weapons charge. Williams entered his guilty plea in early July.

The Incident

The incident occurred on December 1, 2021, when Williams called 911 to report a disturbance at a residence on Indianapolis’ north side. According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Williams informed the responding officers that he had been harassed and directed them down the street.

The Attack

As the officers proceeded down the street, Williams attacked them, stabbing one officer in the neck and the other in the chest. In self-defense, the officers shot and wounded Williams.

Planned Attack

Williams later admitted to investigators that he had fabricated the harassment story. He confessed that he planned the attack, intending to kill one officer and then be killed by the other. Williams explained that he wanted to “get his own justice” due to his frustration over an unaffordable recent medical bill.

Prosecutor’s Statement

“The officers were simply answering the call to help someone in need when they were horrifically attacked,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement.
