Five Wounded After Argument Escalates to Gunfire
A Detroit man is facing serious charges after a fight over a parking space outside a blues club erupted in gunfire, leaving five people injured.
Damond Hunter in Custody
32-year-old Damond Hunter has been arraigned on multiple charges, including five counts of assault with intent to murder, five counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and using a firearm during a felony (11 counts). His bond was set at a staggering $5 million.
Airport Arrest Follows Shooting
Authorities apprehended Hunter at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on April 10th. The shooting incident itself occurred on March 29th, around 2:45 am, outside a westside Detroit club.
Argument Turns Violent
According to police reports, an argument over a parking space escalated into a physical altercation. Tragically, the situation took a turn for the worse when one of the individuals involved pulled a gun and fired into the crowd. Five men, ranging in age from 33 to 48, were struck by gunfire. The shooter then fled the scene in a vehicle. Police recovered seven or eight shell casings from the parking lot. Investigators believe that only one of the wounded men was directly involved in the initial fight; the others were innocent bystanders.
Defense Claims Self-Defense
Hunter’s attorney, Arnold Weiner, maintains his client’s innocence, arguing self-defense. Weiner acknowledges the dangers of introducing weapons into arguments but claims Hunter was protecting himself and his family members from further harm.
Legal Proceedings Underway
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Friday, followed by a preliminary examination on April 29th. This case highlights the devastating consequences of gun violence and the importance of de-escalating situations before they turn deadly.
