Caught on Camera, Teens Now Face Serious Legal Consequences
Two Florida teenagers are facing felony charges after a viral video captured them dumping trash cans full of garbage into the Atlantic Ocean. The incident, which occurred during a spring break gathering off the coast of Boca Raton, has sparked outrage and drawn the attention of state wildlife officials.
Surrender Follows Viral Shame
The 15-year-old and 16-year-old boys, whose names haven’t been released due to their age, surrendered to police on Friday. This came after a video shared by YouTuber Wavy Boats documented their actions and quickly gained traction online.
Video Evidence: From Party to Pollution
The disturbing video reportedly shows the teens leaving a large party known as “Boca Bash” before heading out on a boat. Drone footage captures a series of events.
A 16-year-old allegedly performs an offensive gesture while the boat navigates from a lake towards the ocean. As waves intensify, the 16-year-old, presumed to be the “captain,” and another shirtless teen proceed to dump the contents of two overflowing trash cans overboard. The video ends with the teens briefly celebrating their actions before the boat is tossed by rough waves.
Condemnation and Consequences
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has condemned the teenagers’ behavior, labeling it a “serious crime.” Both individuals have been charged with third-degree felony pollution for contaminating the waters near Boca Raton. If convicted, they could face a hefty fine of up to $50,000 and potentially spend five years in prison.
