Suspect Surrendered by Parents After Seeing News Report

A teenage suspect involved in a carjacking last week in Jackson, Mississippi, is now in custody. Police have set his bond at $1.75 million.

Details of the Carjacking

According to WAPT-TV, the 14-year-old suspect was apprehended after his parents saw a video of the carjacking on the news and surrendered him to deputies at the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Friday at a residence in west Jackson.

The teenager faces charges of carjacking and six counts of aggravated assault. Doorbell camera footage shows the two suspects approaching a parked vehicle in the driveway. One suspect fires a shot before confronting two women. The victims, some with children in the car, are forced out at gunpoint. One woman manages to get a child out before the suspects attempt to flee in the stolen vehicle.

Unsuccessful Escape and Second Suspect at Large

Unable to operate the stolen car, the suspects take off in another vehicle after a woman throws them the keys. Police have recovered and impounded the second vehicle as part of their ongoing investigation. Efforts to locate the remaining suspect are underway.
