One Dead, Thirteen Injured in Brenham Crash
Brenham, Texas – A violent act of retaliation unfolded on Friday in Brenham, Texas, when a semitrailer driver rammed a stolen 18-wheeler into a Department of Public Safety (DPS) building. The incident, believed to be intentional, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to thirteen others.
Driver Upset After License Renewal Rejection
Authorities identified the driver as 42-year-old Clenard Parker. On Thursday, Parker visited the DPS office to renew his commercial driver’s license (CDL) but was denied. Details regarding the reason for the rejection remain undisclosed by Texas DPS Sgt. Justin Ruiz.
Rampage and Arrest
Following the initial crash, which left a gaping hole in the building’s entrance, Parker reportedly backed up the truck in an attempt to ram it again before being apprehended. Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura expressed his sadness at the senseless tragedy.
Parker, a resident of Chappell Hill, is currently being held without bail in the Washington County jail on initial charges of suspicion of evading arrest causing serious bodily injury and unauthorized use of a vehicle. No information regarding legal representation has been made available.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, including the possibility of additional charges and whether the act could be classified as terrorism. The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
Community Recovers
A significant police presence remains at the scene, and drivers are advised to avoid the area. Local officials, including Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Mayor Kenjura, commended the swift response by law enforcement officials who potentially prevented further casualties.
DPS: More Than Border Security
While the Texas DPS is known for its role in border security operations and criminal investigations, it also maintains offices across the state for driver’s license services. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into this incident.
