A 22-year-old Minnesota woman was arrested after allegedly driving into a crowd in downtown Minneapolis, killing a 16-year-old girl and injuring five others following a sidewalk brawl early Saturday morning. Authorities confirmed her arrest on suspicion of murder.
Intentional Act of Violence
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that the woman deliberately drove her SUV through the crowd after the altercation, expressing shock over the tragic incident.
“There is no question that the motorist intended to drive through the crowd,” said O’Hara. “The video of this is absolutely horrific. It’s senseless to lose a 16-year-old girl over something like this.”
Victim and Injuries
The 16-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Among the other five injured were a 29-year-old woman who sustained life-threatening injuries, two 14-year-old girls, and two men, aged 24 and 28, who suffered minor injuries.
Hit-and-Run Followed by Arrest
Witnesses immediately followed the suspect as she fled the scene. The hit-and-run was reported at 12:23 a.m., and officers from multiple departments swiftly apprehended the woman after pulling over her vehicle.
Prior Criminal Record
Court records show that the woman has a history of legal troubles, including a conviction for driving on a suspended license last year and an assault charge from 2022 involving her 14-year-old sister. It is unclear whether her license remains suspended at the time of the incident.
