Second Suspect Arrested in Traffic Stop
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Hussein Murray, a 72-year-old suburban Detroit man, who was killed in his home after being deceived by men posing as utility workers. Authorities say the second man was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Monday in Plymouth Township, west of Detroit.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard confirmed the arrest and vowed to pursue justice. “We continue to work every detail and expect the defendants to be held fully accountable for their heinous actions,” Bouchard said.
The Utility Worker Ruse
Murray was killed on Friday in the basement of his Rochester Hills home after letting two men inside who falsely claimed to be utility workers checking for a gas leak. His wife was also assaulted and had her hands bound with duct tape during the attack. Authorities have not determined whether anything was stolen from the home.
Arrests Across States
The first suspect was arrested Saturday in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. He is expected to make an appearance in a Louisiana court on Tuesday, which will initiate the process of transferring him to Michigan to face charges.
Authorities said the two suspects visited Murray’s home twice—once on Thursday and again on Friday—with a clipboard displaying a utility company logo to gain his trust.
Home Security Footage Aids Investigation
Key evidence came from the home’s security footage, which helped investigators identify the suspects involved in the ruse. Sheriff Bouchard emphasized that detectives are still piecing together all aspects of the crime, and further details about the suspects’ motives and actions will be revealed as the investigation progresses.
The arrests have brought some relief to the Rochester Hills community, but the authorities remain focused on ensuring justice for the Murray family and holding the perpetrators accountable for this tragic crime.
