Additional Charges Filed Against Mother and Boyfriend After 3-Year-Old’s Remains Found in Wisconsin Woods

New Charges Include Chronic Neglect and Physical Abuse Leading to Death

Authorities in Wisconsin have filed additional charges against Katrina Baur and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, in the tragic death of Baur’s 3-year-old son, Elijah Vue, whose skeletal remains were discovered last month in a wooded area. The Manitowoc County District Attorney, Jacalyn LaBre, announced the new charges on Thursday, escalating the legal consequences for the couple.

Charges for Mother and Boyfriend

Baur now faces charges of chronic neglect of a child resulting in death, neglecting a child, and resisting or obstructing an officer. Vang has been charged with physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Elijah Vue had been missing since February, with the boy last seen at Vang’s residence in Two Rivers. His remains were discovered by a hunter on September 7, approximately three miles from where he was last seen. The man who found Elijah’s remains had been preparing his property for deer season when he made the grim discovery.

Incident Leading to Child’s Disappearance

According to court documents, Baur left her son with Vang on February 12, asking Vang to “teach him to be a man.” Vang reported Elijah missing on February 20, claiming that he had taken a nap with the boy in the bedroom. When he awoke three hours later, the child was gone.

In February, both Baur and Vang were initially charged. Baur pleaded not guilty to a felony count of being a party to child neglect and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer. Vang also pleaded not guilty to a felony count of being a party to child neglect.

Complex Investigation

Manitowoc County District Attorney LaBre described the investigation as “complex,” involving an extensive review of police reports, video evidence, and other materials. “This is an incredibly tragic situation that has shaken our community,” LaBre told reporters during Thursday’s announcement.

Upcoming Legal Proceedings

Both Baur and Vang are expected to appear in court for bail hearings on Friday, as the community and law enforcement continue to grapple with the devastating loss of young Elijah Vue.
