Rearrest Following Bond Increase
A Texas woman accused of attempting to drown a 3-year-old at an apartment complex pool in suburban Dallas after making racist remarks toward the child’s mother has been rearrested following an increase in her bond to $1 million. Elizabeth Wolf, 42, initially released on a $40,000 bond, faces charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on May 19 in Euless, a Dallas suburb. According to police reports, a “very intoxicated” Wolf tried to drown the child following an argument with the child’s mother. The mother reported that Wolf accused her of not being American and made other racial statements. After a court hearing last week, Wolf’s bond was increased, leading to her rearrest.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Wolf remains jailed in Fort Worth as of Wednesday, according to Tarrant County records. Her attorney has not yet commented on the case. The charges against Wolf include attempted capital murder and injury to a child, stemming from the alleged attempted drowning and the racist confrontation with the child’s mother.
Details of the Incident
The mother reported to officers that Wolf asked her where she was from before attempting to grab her 6-year-old son and then forcibly submerging her 3-year-old daughter underwater. The mother managed to rescue her daughter, who was yelling for help and coughing up water. Both children were medically checked and cleared following the incident.
Response from Advocacy Groups
The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) expressed approval of Wolf’s rearrest. “CAIR-Texas remains committed to advocating for the family and the American Muslim community until justice, peace, and equity are achieved,” said Shaimaa Zayan, CAIR-Austin operations manager. The mother of the children, who wears a hijab, has stated through CAIR that her family are Palestinians who became American citizens. Neither the police nor CAIR have released the mother’s name.
