Cards Against Humanity Sues Elon Musk’s SpaceX Over Alleged Trespassing in Texas

Lawsuit Filed Over Unauthorized Use of Texas Land

The creators of the popular party game Cards Against Humanity have filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s SpaceX, accusing the aerospace company of trespassing on and damaging a plot of land in Cameron County, Texas. The lawsuit, filed in a Texas court this week, claims that SpaceX has been using the property without permission for at least six months.

Property Misuse and Environmental Damage Alleged

According to the lawsuit, SpaceX has been placing construction materials, gravel, and other debris on Cards Against Humanity’s land, treating it as their own. The game company alleges that the actions have caused significant damage to the property, including the loss of vegetation.

“SpaceX has been using the land as if it were theirs,” the complaint states, without seeking permission from the landowners. The property has remained largely undeveloped and in its natural state since Cards Against Humanity purchased it in 2017.

History of the Land Purchase

Cards Against Humanity, known for its humor and stunts, bought the land in 2017 as part of a campaign opposing then-President Donald Trump’s efforts to build a border wall. The company sold participation rights to 150,000 supporters, who each contributed $15 toward the effort. Since the purchase, the land has remained undeveloped, and a “no trespassing” sign has been posted on the property to protect it from unauthorized use.

SpaceX’s Involvement

SpaceX, which has acquired multiple plots of land in the surrounding area for its rocket development and testing operations, has not yet responded to requests for comment on the allegations. Cards Against Humanity contends that the company’s activities have led to significant property damage, including environmental degradation, and is seeking $15 million in compensation.

Legal Battle Ahead

The lawsuit claims that SpaceX’s actions have caused irreparable harm to the property, violating the rights of Cards Against Humanity and its supporters. The game company is seeking both compensation for the damage and the removal of any unauthorized materials from the site.
