Former Ohio Casino Dealer Accused of Skimming Poker Pots

A former poker dealer at JACK Cleveland Casino is facing charges for allegedly stealing from the poker table more than a dozen times over the summer. The accused, a 51-year-old man from North Olmsted, Ohio, pleaded not guilty on November 15 to charges of violating casino gaming laws and misdemeanor theft.

Allegations of Repeated Theft

The investigation began in September after a poker player accused the dealer of stealing chips from the pot during a game. The Ohio Casino Control Commission, which oversees casino operations and probes gambling-related crimes, launched an inquiry into the allegations.

The casino reviewed surveillance footage and uncovered additional incidents, with authorities alleging the dealer stole from the table on 14 separate occasions since early August.

Immediate Termination and Legal Action

After the discovery of the thefts, the dealer was fired the day after the casino’s review of the video evidence. Details regarding the total amount stolen have not been disclosed in court records.

Legal Proceedings Continue

The accused has been charged with violating Ohio’s casino gaming laws and misdemeanor theft. His attorney has not yet commented on the case. The dealer is set to appear in court again in early December for further hearings.

Protecting the Integrity of Ohio Casinos

The Ohio Casino Control Commission emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in casino operations. Incidents like this, the commission stated, undermine public trust and highlight the need for stringent monitoring and enforcement measures.

This case has also prompted calls for enhanced safeguards and training to prevent theft and uphold ethical standards among casino staff.

As the legal proceedings continue, the former dealer faces potential penalties for violating gaming regulations and breaching the trust of both the casino and its patrons.
