Mother of Georgia School Shooting Suspect Indicted for Domestic Incident

Mother Indicted Amid Unrelated Domestic Charges

Marcee Gray, the mother of a Georgia teenager accused of a deadly school shooting, has been indicted on charges unrelated to the tragic event. The 43-year-old faces allegations stemming from a domestic incident in 2022, including elder exploitation and other charges. The indictment comes as her 14-year-old son, Colt Gray, faces murder charges for a fatal shooting at Apalachee High School earlier this month.

The charges against Marcee Gray are linked to an incident in Ben Hill County, over 200 miles from the site of the school shooting. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the indictment is unrelated to the high school shooting and involves a troubling domestic altercation with her elderly mother.

Details of the Domestic Incident

According to a police incident report, Gray’s 74-year-old mother claimed that on November 4, 2022, Gray took her phone, taped her to a chair, and left her in that state for nearly 24 hours. The incident reportedly occurred before Gray traveled to Barrow County to confront her ex-husband, who was living with their son, Colt, and two other children at the time.

Two days after her mother was discovered, Gray was arrested in Barrow County. She later pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespassing, property damage, and using a license plate to disguise her vehicle. Gray served a 45-day jail sentence in connection with these charges.

School Shooting Shocks Georgia Community

While Marcee Gray’s legal troubles are now focused on the 2022 incident, her son, Colt Gray, has become the focus of a much more harrowing event. The 14-year-old was charged with murder after allegedly bringing an assault-style rifle to Apalachee High School on September 4. During morning classes, Colt reportedly opened fire, killing two students and two teachers while injuring nine others.

The horrific event shocked the Georgia community, as students and teachers alike mourned the loss of their classmates and colleagues. Authorities revealed that Colt sent a cryptic message to his mother on the day of the shooting, stating, “I’m sorry.” Gray has since stated publicly that her son “is not a monster,” although she called the school the morning of the incident to warn staff members.

Father Also Facing Charges

Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, is also facing serious legal repercussions. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. Authorities allege that he gave his son access to the rifle used in the shooting.
