One to Four Years in Prison for Road Rage Incident
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to prison time for a road rage incident that left a woman and her children traumatized. Cody Heron, 27, pleaded guilty in February to charges stemming from the October 1st attack.
Violent Act Captured on Video
The incident involved a group of ATV, motorcycle, and dirt bike riders near Philadelphia’s City Hall. Heron, who was on a motorcycle, targeted a sedan driven by a 23-year-old woman with her young children inside the vehicle. Horrifying video footage captured by another driver went viral online. The video shows Heron leaving his motorcycle, jumping onto the back of the woman’s car, and shattering the rear window. A handgun falls from Heron’s waistband as he approaches the woman, who exits the car to confront him. The video depicts Heron waving the gun at the woman, headbutting her, and pushing her.
Guilty Plea and Remorse Expressed
Heron pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of an instrument of crime. He was sentenced to one to four years in prison for one of the aggravated assault charges. The remaining charges resulted in five-year probationary terms. Heron’s defense attorney, Justin Capek, conveyed his client’s remorse in a statement to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Capek stated that Heron “wholeheartedly accepted responsibility” and offered an apology to the woman and her children.
Sentence and Path Forward
Capek described the sentence as “fair and just,” acknowledging it allows Heron the chance for rehabilitation. Capek added that Heron “looks forward to reintegrating into society as a law-abiding citizen” and moving past this incident. According to court documents, Heron may be eligible for a specialized prison program designed to reduce recidivism. He will also receive credit for time already served.
