New York City Man Charged With Stealing Sword, Bullhorn From Coach Rick Pitino’s St. John’s Office

A 25-year-old man from Queens has been arrested for allegedly stealing a ceremonial sword and a bullhorn from the office of St. John’s University basketball coach Rick Pitino, the New York City Police Department announced on Saturday.

Details of the Arrest

The suspect, identified as Emanuel Yakubov, was taken into custody on Friday, a day after the NYPD released surveillance footage that captured two men walking down a hallway inside the university’s athletics department. One of the men was seen carrying the stolen sword, while the other held the bullhorn.

Yakubov faces several charges, including burglary, petit larceny, trespassing, and possession of stolen property. He remains in custody as of Saturday. It is unclear whether he has retained legal representation to comment on the charges.

The Theft Incident

The theft reportedly occurred on Tuesday night when Yakubov and another individual gained unauthorized access to the athletics department offices at St. John’s University. The pair removed several items, including the ceremonial sword and bullhorn, before fleeing the scene on a moped.

The second suspect remains at large, and police are actively searching for him.

St. John’s University, a Catholic institution located in Queens, expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by law enforcement. “The safety and security of our campus community are essential, and our cooperative relationship with law enforcement helps ensure that,” said university spokesperson Brian Browne in a statement following the arrest.

The NYPD continues to investigate the incident, with efforts focused on locating the second suspect involved in the theft. The university community remains on alert as authorities work to ensure the safety and security of campus facilities.
