Seattle Man Faces $2M Bail for Multiple Stabbings Across Chinatown-International District

Court Holds Man Accused of Stabbing 9 in Broad Daylight as Investigation Unfolds

A Seattle man accused of stabbing at least five people on Friday and four more on Thursday in a violent spree across the Chinatown-International District has been ordered held on $2 million bail. The suspect, 37, appeared in court Saturday, where the judge cited a history of criminal offenses, including nine prior felony convictions, as grounds for the high bail.

High Bail Set Amid Concerns for Community Safety

“People who live in and travel to the Chinatown-International District deserve to feel safe and be safe,” said King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion following the judge’s decision to hold the man on five counts of first-degree assault. The judge underscored the severity of the charges and the suspect’s previous warrants.

The man’s criminal history includes car thefts, possession of stolen property, robbery, and attempted burglary, which raised additional public safety concerns in the densely populated neighborhood.

Victims in Recovery; Hospital Releases Conditions

Four of the five victims in Friday’s incident were taken to Harborview Medical Center, with one man in critical condition upgraded to serious, and two others remaining in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Another male patient was reported to be in satisfactory condition, according to hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg.

Authorities reported that two knives, appearing to be blood-stained, were found in a parking lot where the man was arrested. A third knife was still lodged in one victim’s back when he arrived at the hospital, court records revealed.

Thursday Stabbings Linked to Same Suspect

The man is also believed to have attacked four others in random stabbings on Thursday. On Thursday morning, a 52-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds, and later that day, a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were also found with multiple injuries.

The violence continued into Friday around 2 p.m., when police received multiple 911 calls about a stabbing incident that left four people injured. A fifth victim was found nearby, according to a probable cause statement. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect walk behind a man and stab him in the back. One witness reportedly followed the suspect, who calmly moved through the streets, allegedly stabbing three others at a street corner.

Suspect Apprehended with Bloodstained Clothes

Seattle police detained the man on Friday, shortly after the last assault, using witness descriptions to identify him. Wearing a black sweatshirt with “Fear of God State” written across the chest, he was apprehended with visible blood on his hands and shoes, police said.

Deputy Chief Eric Barden characterized the incidents as a series of random, brutal assaults over a 38-hour period. “This incident was apparently one individual over a 38-hour period of time committing random assaults,” Barden said at the scene on Friday.
